SHIT AND SHINE - KÜSS MICH, MEIN LEIBE (LOAD 102)

I HAVE READ THIS LISTED AS A COMPILATION BUT I CAN'T FIND EVIDENCE FOR WHAT IT IS COMPILING OTHER THAN REGULAR TRACKS ON A REGULAR ALBUM AND IN THAT SPIRIT I AM TAKING IT AS SUCH. I USED TO GET THIS GROUP CONFUSED WITH STORM AND STRESS, PRESUMABLY BECAUSE I HAD TAKEN THE TIME TO LISTEN TO NEITHER.

I AM VAGUELY BROUGHT TO MIND OF BIRMINGHAM-BASED POST-NAPALM DEATH PROJECT SCORN, WHICH SEEMED TO EXIST IN A STRANGE HINTERLAND BETWEEN TECHNO, INDUSTRIAL, EXPERIMENTAL, ETC. THIS IS MORE ACOUSTIC INSTRUMENTS WHILE SCORN IS MORE 'ELECTRO' BUT I THINK THEY'RE ON THE SAME COIN.

THERE'S DRUMS AND REPETITIONS AND BUZZING ELECTRONIC NOISES AND LITTLE MELODIC PROGRESSION WITH SONG DEVELOPMENT BEING A LINEAR KNOB-TWIDDLING KIND OF THING. DESPITE THE ANNOYING SONG TITLES THIS IS A LOT LESS ANNOYING AND TEENAGE THAN I EXPECTED. I DON'T KNOW WHICH PEOPLE BECOME HARDCORE FANS OF THIS KIND OF STUFF BUT THEY'RE STILL GOING AND I SEE THEIR NAMES ON POSTERS FROM TIME TO TIME.

THE RECORD PETERS OUT A BIT TOWARD THE END TO BE HONEST AND THE RECORDING IS KIND OF CRAPPY. I'M A BIG FAN OF USING LO-FI TO CREATE INTIMACY AND TO BAKE PERFORMANCES TOGETHER IN WAYS BIG STUDIOS CAN'T, BUT THE TITLE TRACK SEEMS TO DEMAND AT LEAST SOME KIND OF COHERENCE AND NOT HAVING THE MIC PEAKING. JUST A THOUGHT.
