AT LAST A PLEASUREHORSE RELEASE MAKES ITSELF AVAILABLE TO THE WORLD 20 YEARS AFTER ITS INITIAL APPEARANCE.
THIS IS SOME DEEPLY INSCRUTABLE STUFF. VAGUELY IN THE ELECTRO/IDM/GLITCH ARENA BUT DEFINITELY NOT IN THE UK/EU TRADITION. THERE'S AN INDUSTRIAL AND SLIGHTLY SLEAZOID VIBE HERE THAT GETS UNDER YOUR SKIN IN THE BURROWING INSECT WAY RATHER THAN THE PENETRATION OF YOUR EMOTIONAL CARAPACE.
I AM NOT 100% SURE THAT I LIKE OR DISLIKE IT. IT SORT OF DEFIES CONVENTIONAL CATEGORIES IN A WAY THAT MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO COMPARE AND THEREFORE ASSESS IN USUAL WAYS. I CAN SAY WITH MORE CERTAINTY THAT I WAS BOTH REPULSED BY ITS DISTANCE FROM 'PLEASURE' AND IN ADMIRATION AT ITS CONSTRUCTION AND LACK OF CONVENTION.
IT ALSO DOES FEEL LIKE A WHOLE ALBUM. BRIEF, BUT RELATED BY A VISION, SO NOT JUST RANDOM FRAGMENTS OF A WEIRD MIND. WORK WAS PUT IN AND A VISION ACHIEVED. I'LL HAVE TO COME BACK TO THIS. IT MIGHT BE GROWING ON ME AS IT PLAYS.
SYSTEMATIC BUT NOT NECESSARILY FAIR REVIEWS OF AS MUCH OF THE LOAD RECORDS DISCOGRAPHY AS I CAN FIND OR ABIDE (no I do not have downloads)
